DJ Profile: Tigger

DJ Tigger DJ's are just human jukeboxes. Do you agree or do you think it's something a little deeper than that?
I guess that depends where you're playing and who you're playing to. I don't tend to hang around places where human jukeboxes are the preferred form of DJ though. Set crafting is equally if not more important than track selection in my opinion. I'd rather listen to a DJ who knows how to build a set with good flow, tight beat-mixing and harmonic mixing who doesn't necessarily play my favourite genre than a sloppy progressive DJ who doesn't know where he's going.

What is it that can best describe what you play?
Generally the melodic side of progressive house and progressive breaks these days although I've been known to pull out the odd psy-trance or acid techno set.

Do you think that in the long term, your style will play a much bigger part in the scene than it does at the moment? Are you in a transitional period as you experiment and develop your sound further or do you intend to stick to your current sound?
Hrm.. I hope Perth starts to embrace the music I love more than it does now but I'm sure every DJ feels that way. Progressive doesn't get that much attention here, especially when comparing Perth to the Melbourne scene, although there are enough progressive acts that come out here to not send me insane. The music I play has and will always come down to what I like, which isn't to say that it won't change through the years, but it's unlikely that it will be determined by the direction the scene takes.

Who are some of the artists that have inspired you over the years?
Oliver Lieb, Speedy J, Sven Vaeth & Ralf Hildenbeutel, Underworld, Sasha, John Digweed, Chris Liberator, Hybrid and more recently James Holden (production only!), Luke Chable and Phil K.

Name five releases that have left their mark on you, and tell us why they did.
Cygnus X - The Orange Theme (original mix) … the first track to turn me to electronic music back in 1995
Itch-E & Scratch-E - Bouncing Chamber… cos it's mental and I've been told sounds fab with nitrous oxide
Underworld - Mother Earth… because it's been on my vinyl wants list for as long as I can remember and I still haven't got it
Doi-oing - Blue (12" mix)… the most gorgeous track from my favourite mix CD - Northern Exposure 2
L.S.G. - Hearts… still sends shivers up my spine and always brings me back to my 21st birthday celebrations at Gravity
