Spencer Parker (Rekids / Buzzin’ Fly / UK)
Still realized by many fans as one of the best events ever staged in Perth, following several years and great anticipation, Thursday 9 April 2009 will mark the return of RENAISSANCE.
OVER the last 15 years, Renaissance has established an enviable international reputation for great club nights, star DJs and fantastic music. This is a British club brand that has successfully expanded into international tours, one-off spectaculars, live events, and a series of high-quality mix CDs that have sold millions. For hundreds of thousands of clubbers all over the world, Renaissance nights are synonymous with glamour and excitement – for transforming ordinary clubs into palaces of pleasure. A Renaissance night is not just about dancing, but about an all-encompassing nightclub experience!
Renaissance have been immortalized in dance music history through the seminal ‘Renaissance – The Mix Collection’ compilation album, released in 1994. Supported by a tour and Mixed by Sasha & John Digweed and recently voted ‘The Best Mix Compilation Ever’ by ‘Mixmag’ magazine, the lavishly packaged triple CD was the first gold-selling club compilation album.
Since then Renaissance has sold far in excess of a million albums in territories all over the world and now returns to Perth with its latest installment ‘The Masters Series’.
Satoshi Tomiie
Satoshi is considered a true master of house.
The Japanese-by-way-of-New-York Don waves his way through deep tech-house excursions that draws on some of the brightest luminaries at work in the scene today, from Radio Slave to Layo & Bushwacka!, Jimpster, Motorcitysoul, Marc Romboy, Mlle Caro & Franck Garcia, Jeff Bennett and many more besides… The result is his forward thinking musical blueprint, as Satoshi himself elaborates, ‘My definition of house remains the same – ‘an open minded, evolving form of dance music’’.
Receiving the highest honor as a DJ, in 2001 Satoshi Tomiie was voted by the public into the #30 spot of the World’s Top 100 DJ List and Best Tech House DJ Ibiza DJ Award.
Satoshi’s Saw Recordings label has carved out a niche and has earned a formidable reputation for credible club grooves. Taking its name from a sound wave, the company has to date unleashed over 60 singles along with 4 albums including Chab’s sublime variety of rock, electro and house tracks, SLOK, Guy Gerber, Audiofly X, Jim Rivers, Nick Chacona, Nathan Fake, Lexicon Avenue and Satoshi’s own mix compilations ES and ES-B.
Satoshi is the first American based DJ to be asked to record a NuBreed album which is known for only working with the leading cutting edge DJ’s. His album remains the fastest and highest selling NuBreed to date.
He has just released the latest Renaissance complication – The mix, which spans two CDs, is further distinguished by the additional production, be it the keys Satoshi plays on the Shur-i-kan intro or the loops and FX he subtly weaves throughout, enhancing the compilation’s mood and flow. However, the cake is well and truly iced by an exclusive in the form of his own, brand new single; under the guise of ‘Mes’, Madrugada is Satoshi at his unheard finest that will surely have aficionados chomping at the bit.
Spencer Parker
Spencer Parker is one of Europe’s leading djs, his unique style of house music is in demand the world over and with his productions, remixes and re-edits being supported by such names as Radio Slave, Luciano, Laurent Garnier, Richie Hawtin, Ben Watt, Nic Fanciulli and Pete Tong, the future looks bright.
Spencer’s style is simply best described as underground electronic house music. Preferred record labels range from the techno stylings of M_nus, Planet E, Drumcode and Rekids through to the uber-cool house of Buzzin’ Fly, Cecille, Tsuba and Objektivity. A set from Spencer would include acid house and techno alongside some cool jackin’ tracks and the odd trippy vocal. Spencer has held some highly successful residencies in his home town of London and continues to regularly guest at the capitals best clubs, including Fabric and The Arches, as well as being in demand worldwide, with recent visits alone including Russia, Germany, China, America, Australia, France, Italy and Romania.
In 2005 Spencer began his production career with the release of his debut single ‘Open Your Eyes’, his second release coming the following year in the shape of ‘Beautiful Noise’, on Radio Slave’s newly launched Rekids label. Early copies garnered support from names such as Nic Fanciulli, Clive Henry, X Press 2, Ben Watt and Pete Tong. In addition to ‘Beautiful Noise’ Spencer also released the much hyped single ‘Neon’ in early 2007 on the London based Tsuba label. Already becoming an anthem for Nic Fanciulli after constant play at his Space (Ibiza) residency, ‘Neon’ was supported by such names as James Zabelia and Laurent Garnier with both John Digweed and Hernan Cattaneo adding it to their latest compilations.
In addition to producing original material, Spencer often remixes or re-edits some of the hottest tracks around to give himself an exclusive secret weapon to play and make his dj sets completely original. Recent official remixes include ‘Freaky Bleepy’ for Ben Watt’s excellent Buzzin’ Fly imprint, the lead single from Nic Fanciulli’s Skylark album, ‘All I See’ as well as Spencer’s well received remix of Foremost Poets’ ‘Moonraker’ for NRK Records. Also, although unlikely to see a release, more than a few people have been asking about his hot re workings of Ricardo Villalobos’ ‘Enfants’ and Akefe Iku’s huge ‘Mirror Dance’ track.
In 2008, Spencer’s production schedule really stepped up a gear with releases on SAW (‘Music Box’), Buzzin’ Fly (‘Chiho’), Tsuba (‘e Lucia’) and Rekids (‘The Dreamer EP’).
In 2009, Spencer has already stacked up forthcoming singles on Rekids, Buzzin’ Fly, Saved and Liebe* Detail as well as mixing his first compilation for Rekids, the aptly names ‘Rekids Revolution’, which will be accompanied by an extensive worldwide tour.
Spencer is an experienced and adaptable dj that knows how to warm up for big names intelligently as well as rock a main room in his own right, anywhere in the world. Now, with his production and remixing skills developing at a rapid rate, and releases on some of the worlds best underground house labels, the package is complete.
