@ Blue Steel Oval

Origin returns to Perth this new years eve and will once again host the biggest Drum and Bass lineup of the year along with some of the most influential hip hop acts of all time. With the line up boasting such acts as PUBLIC ENEMY, MOS DEF, DJ NUMARK (jurassic 5), SKREAM AND BENGA, CHASE AND STATUS, SUBFOCUS, NOISIA and PHACE under the stars at Blue Steel Oval (Bassendean) things are set ignite this new years eve. A secret headliner will be announced along with a load of other acts November 1st – So keep posted for more artists to be added!

Arguably the most definitive and politically controversial group of its time, Public Enemy introduced a raw hip-hop sound that changed the course of rap and influenced a generation of artists. Public Enemy’s production team, the Bomb Squad, tailored a unique platform for this Long Island based crew to reach the masses and establish themselves as cultural icons. Public Enemy’s tracks were characterized by infamous lead rapper Chuck D’s politically charged verses delivered in a booming, authoritarian voice, and his sidekick/jester, Flavor Flav, garnished with taunts, teases, and and of course the bitches.

With roots deep in the Afrocentric stylings of the Native Tongues crew, which included De La Soul, Jungle Brothers and A Tribe Called Quest, Mos Def emerged as one of the more conscientious icons of new school hip-hop. Alongside the likes of Common, Outkast and The Roots Mos gave a fresh breath of soul back to Hip Hop fighting to keep the emphasis on the music and not on the profit. A lyricist lounge staple, he gained acclaim appearing on recordings by De La Soul and Bush Babees before releasing the single “Universal Magnetic” in 1997. Since then he has appeared on numerous recordings with several crews, including Black Star (Mos Def and Talib Kweli). Mos Def released his solo debut Black on Both Sides in 1999 receiving 4 mics from The Source and establishing its self as one of the most influential Hip Hop albums of all time. Mos Def’s venture into Acting brought his unqiue twist to such movies as “Hitch Hikers Guide To The Galaxy” and “Be Kind Rewind” featuring Hollywood heavyweight Jack Black showing no limit of talent.

Chase and Status (Will Kennard and Saul Milton) will also be gracing the stage at this years Origin NYE. The duo are out to tour their new smash album “More than alot” coming out on Ram Records. The Lads have brought their unique production styles to new genres on this album by exploring such genres as hip hop, house and dubstep and will be
showcasing everything they’ve kept locked away for DJ sets purely. Being dubbed some of the tightest dj’s in the game and “the ones to watch” in 2008 chase and status will prove to be “more than alot” this new years.
